On Sunday, March 19, 2017, I took a bite out of the Big Apple. Exactly 365 days ago, I broke my half marathon PR when I ran through the New York Streets on March 20, 2016, finishing with a then PR of 1:38:44. After Sunday though, the new PR stands at 1:37:43.
So how did I get that PR? Four things contributed to it: November Project NYC, NYRR Group Training, mental toughness, and, Cheer Squads! Especially the last one.
For my next marathon, I knew deep down I didn't have another 16 weeks in me like I did for the Chicago Marathon. With the New Jersey Marathon penciled in as my go-to race at the end of April, I knew I had to approach things differently. The question was: How do I change it up?
From an airport panic to a dash to the expo to pick up my bib in time, to a goal-achieving PR and deep dish pizza, Chicago had it all.
I left the city with a new PR of 3:38:50 - beating my previous time of 3:41:35 from Philadelphia in 2015 - and a host of memories that will forever live with me. This is the story of the 2016 Chicago Marathon.
Who doesn't love a big bowl of Spaghetti Bolognese! I am actually salivating at just the mention of it! It is one of the best hearty meals to have after a long day. Especially if your a runner, it is a good protein and carbohydrate filled meal to have the evening before a big run, or when you are back from one.
